ARSU was founded as a GbR with scientists and planners from different disciplines of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg in 1980. Since 1986 ARSU is a GmbH. At the beginning activities were focused on advice in the area of conflict between economy and ecology. Gaining experience ARSU dealt with complex planning processes and concrete implementation projects. 

The current operation areas of ARSU are advisory activities, the handling of complex planning projects, and the implementation of applied research – that means to implement basic research and technical information in political and planning consulting.

The professional orientations of the ARSU team and the advisory board comprises all disciplines that are necessary to work on comprehensive aims ranging from natural sciences to planning disciplines, legal aspects, and economy.

It is characteristic that the founding members are still active today or working in advisory positions. Thus a wealth of experience has been accumulated that is passed down to subsequent generations.
